—Why?—
For many years my sister and I have been throwing around the idea of opening a homeware shop together. Like all great ideas, the practical side kicks in and the thought is cast aside. Until that once in a lifetime opportunity knocks at your door. The perfect timing and a great location… we could not turn it down.
Ironically, the first purchase for Wells Trading Company was a set of antique doors. They will be a symbolic reminder in the shop of new beginnings and a step forward into our futures.
I have always worked on the corporate side of sales and I love working with people. My first job was at a homeware shop in Wellington, where both my sister and I worked in the school holidays. Homeware is a passion for me, and for my sister, she’s the creative side of it, doing interiors and merchandising.
We come from a tight farming family and the name Wells Trading Company reflects our roots. ‘Wells’ is our mother’s maiden name and the ‘Trading’ represents our farming roots. Wells Trading Company will be a family business made up of mothers, daughters, sisters and aunts, all members of the Wells Family (Although, when the Wells girls are busy it may be a friend)
Wells Trading Company will be a beautifully curated space that looks, smells and feels like a living room. Instead of reinventing the wheel, we will stock goods that will ‘add’ to your space; pieces that create layers and visually add interest. We do not believe in trends within interiors, we believe in timelessness. It takes time to build exquisite spaces, it’s about the journey, not the destination – a saying our Mother used to tell us growing up. Buy well and buy things you want to keep.
